Research in algebra and topology at the Mathematics Department of IST includes various topics in algebraic topology, algebraic geometry, commutative algebra, Hopf algebras, representation theory of operator algebras, knot theory and theory of categories.

The members of the algebra and topology research group interact and cooperate strongly with members of other research groups in the Department, specially with the geometry group and the mathematical physics group.

Almost all the members of the algebra and topology research group belong to the Center for Mathematical Analysis, Geometry and Dynamical Systems, a research unit of the Associate Laboratory LARSyS.
