Research

Centers

The majority of Department of Mathematics research activities is pursued through Research Centers. These include:

• Centro de Análise Funcional e Aplicações
• Centro de Análise Matemática, Geometria e Sistemas Dinâmicos, a part of the Associate Laboratory LARSyS.
• Centro de Matemática e Aplicações
• Security and Quantum Information Group, a part of the Associate Laboratory IT.

A small number of Department members is affiliated with other research centres or has no current affiliation.

Areas

The department is organized into eight research/scientific areas:

• Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems
• Geometry
• Mathematical-Physics
• Logic and Computation
• Probability and Statistics
• Real and Functional Analysis

In particular faculty positions open in one or more of these areas.

Faculty

The faculty size currently exceeds one hundred making this the largest portuguese university mathematics department.

The best method to gauge the global publication output originating from researchers associated to the Department is to access MathSciNet for the institution with code P-TULT. Be aware that you might get some results from Instituto Superior Técnico but not from the Mathematics Department. The link requires a MathSciNet subscription.

Reports

The Department made available online Research Reports from 1993 to 2008.
