1-4 February, 2010
First Session: Monday, Feb 1, 14h00.

Abstract of the Course: Jacobians play a major role in the theory of smooth algebraic curves. For singular curves their analogues are not compact. We will present the theory of compactifications of Jacobians of singular curves, concentrating on nodal curves. Topics covered are: construction of compactifications, theta divisors, Abel maps, Brill-Noether theory and Torelli theorem.

This course is the fifth of a series of courses aimed at graduate students and researchers in the area of algebraic geometry and researchers of other areas (previous courses )
