A conference dinner is being planned for October 8.

A preliminary detailed version of the program is available (dvi, pdf).

Topics

Objective

To gather the current generation of researchers on Calculus of Variations and related areas and assess current developments.

Participation

Graduate students and post-doc fellows in applied mathematics (functional analysis, differential equations, calculus of variations, optimization,...) and engineering (mechanics, materials,...) are encouraged to submit their applications to participate. Some financial support will be provided to cover local expenses for selected applicants.

Conference location

The conference sessions will be held at CMAF in Lisbon. Facilities available include library, computer rooms, restaurant and coffee shop.

A neighborhood map is also available.

About Lisbon

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal and its largest city, lies in the north bank of the Tagus (Tejo) in the portuguese western coast. Foreign visitors will probably arrive at Lisbon's international airport with an easy and inexpensive connection (about 15 minutes) by taxi (although rates depend on several factors final taxi fare should be less than US $10 / 10 euros / 2000 escudos) or express bus to the hotels mentioned in the suggested accomodations section or to CMAF. Towns of touristic interest like Cascais, Sintra and Mafra are within a one hour drive from Lisbon or easily reachable using public transportation.

Suggested accommodation for participants

(1000 escudos = 5.5 US dollars = 5 euros)
