String Theory

For Visitors

If you will be visiting the group in the near future, here is some information that may be of help upon arrival.

All seminars organized by members of the CAMGSD research center are announced in here. A list of all seminars held at the Department of Mathematics may be found here. Other, ocasionally interesting, seminars are organized at the Department of Physics by the research centers CENTRA and CFTP.

The center is located in the Department of Mathematics of Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon. A google map of its exact location may be found in the center's web-page.

The hotel we usually work with, AS Lisboa, is within walking distance to the institute (just walk uphill to IST). Details concerning the hotel, including its exact location, may be found in its web-page.

Both the institute and the hotel are quite close to the airport. Probably the most convenient thing to do is to take a cab from the airport to either the hotel or to IST (you can get a taxi-voucher at the airport, before exiting). You may also try the Lisbon public transportation system. One option is bus 22, from the Airport to Av. Manuel Maia, right in front of the institute. The Bus system's web-page is here and the Subway system's web-page is here (note that there is no subway to the airport, you must first take a bus in order to connect to the subway system). Both IST and the hotel are located at the "Alameda" subway stop.

If arriving by train, one should get off at "Gare do Oriente" (not at "Santa Apolónia"). From here one can either take a cab or the subway to "Alameda". Useful information can also be found on the railway station web-page. There are also two local train lines, to Cascais and to Sintra.

From the EU and from the USA visas are not required. For other nationalities, we recommend contacting the local Portuguese embassy. A comprehensive list of embassies can be found here. The local currency is the EURO. For an up-to-date conversion, you can visit a currency converter.
